It may surprise you to learn that art can be an effective tool in health treatment. What could art possibly have to do with psychotherapy? As an expressive medium, art can be used to help patients communicate, overcome stress, and explore different aspects of their own personalities.
It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.
How does Creativity Workshop Work?
At Link to Life we allow the patients to unravel their emotions through our creativity workshops. Whether the patients are adults or small children, everyone get the chance to unleash their creativity side.
Creative activity has been shown to reduce depression and isolation, offering the power of choice and decisions. Towards the end of life, art and creativity offer a path of opening up the windows to people’s emotional interiors.
Creative provides possibilities that are mostly indicated to sharpen the capacity of the senses and the patients’ propensity to act them. Nonverbal therapy methods, such as painting, music, etc., are able to influence the well-being of the patients positively, within the modern healthcare system. Furthermore, group therapy sessions help against isolation and lack of life perspective and hope.
Once a month, Link to Life welcome 15 to 20 children suffering from cancer to perform art therapy at our main branch in Vacoas.
